SALT LAKE CITY – Julianna Pena feels she’s carrying the promotion of her UFC women’s bantamweight title fight with Raquel Pennington this Saturday, and she made sure to let the world know. Both Peña (11-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) and Pennington (16-8 MMA, 13-5 UFC) got into a heated back and forth at Thursday’s UFC 307 press conference, mainly initiated by “The Venezuelan Vixen.” Pennington, who makes her first title defense, wasn’t happy with the several shots thrown her way. “You are a warrior, and you have heart, but guess what? I’m a warrior, I have heart, and this whole “Pitbull”…
Effective Thursday, Oct. 3, the U.S. Para Swimming resident training program in Colorado Springs has been shut down. Swimmers were informed on Thursday via an email obtained by SwimSwam, that “after evaluating resources post-Paralympic Games, U.S. Para Swimming has made the difficult decision to discontinue the Para Swimming resident training program at the CSOPTC, effective today. As a result, resident coach George Leatherman will also be leaving the USOPTC.” The email was signed by Director of U.S. Para Swimming Erin Popovich—who is stepping down to pursue other opportunities—along with USOPC’s Manager of Para Internally Managed Sports Rachel McKivigan, and Director…
Nathan Haas blog: Has the UCI done enough for gravel pros at the Gravel World Championships?
Ignoring my own advice never to read the comments section on Cyclingnews; whilst sinking into a recent piece about the USA team not supporting its gravel athletes this year, I was yet again surprised by the sentiment many have towards the UCI Gravel Worlds Championships, calling it ‘bike path world champs’ and a ‘disgrace to USA gravel’. This last comment triggered me briefly, because as for how I see gravel, courses can be whatever they like, there is no definition of what makes it a true gravel course vs one that isn’t.If you haven’t seen the course, you can see…

“Championship.” That was the word that Luka Doncic chose when he was asked for one word that could summarize what will be the Mavericks’ approach to this upcoming NBA season. He only needed a couple of seconds to come up with the perfect answer, during the team’s media day before departing to Las Vegas for training camp. “That’s the goal,” he insisted, as he had one player in his mind. The expectation in Dallas is that Klay Thompson’s arrival this summer will serve as the ideal ingredient to improve the squad’s winning formula, which almost won last campaign’s title in…
Manager: If Magomed Ankalaev takes care of business at UFC 308, ‘he will get his title shot’ against Alex Pereira
There were more than a few curious looks when it was announced that light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira would defend his title next against Khalil Rountree at UFC 307. The assumption was Magomed Ankalaev was the clear cut No. 1 contender at 205 pounds but he ended up booked against Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 308 instead. As disappointing as it was for the Russian currently riding a 12-fight unbeaten streak to get that news, his manager has been assured that one more win gets him a chance at becoming UFC champion. “Listen, I’m happy for Khalil,” Ankalaev’s manager Ali Abdelaziz…
