The College of Alameda named Gary Payton Sr. as the new head coach of the men’s basketball team. “During the interview process, he spoke about having our student-athletes in the community, giving back. The energy and passion that he brings along with his genuine love for the East Bay is unmatched,” said athletic director Ramaundo Vaughn. Payton was the head coach of NAIA Lincoln University in Oakland for the past three years. The College of Alameda went 7-21 last season.

Illinois Swimming announced a scholarship in honor of John “Jack” Yetter, a 53 year-old official, swim dad, and former swimmer, who died unexpectedly last week. “Jack had a lifelong commitment to the sport of swimming,” reads his obituary.  Yetter began swimming at five years old and continued through college at Northern Illinois University. He then attended University of Dayton Law School and began a career in privacy law.
