The University of North Carolina is advancing through candidates to take over as the general manager of the school’s basketball program, according to Jake Fischer of The People’s Insider. Mitch Kupchak is working as an advisor in the process. Buzz Peterson and Jim Tanner are candidates for the position, confirmed Fischer. Tanner, who currently represents Ja Morant and Desmond Bane as an agent, would have to relinquish his clients should he take over the role.
Warlley Alves is no longer on the UFC roster, MMA Fighting has learned. The 34-year-old welterweight veteran leaves the promotion with a record of 8-8. Gretchen Walsh, Katie Ledecky Among Sullivan Award Semifinalists Gretchen Walsh and Katie Ledecky are among six aquatics athletes up for voting as Sullivan Award semifinalists, announced Tuesday. Voting for the award recognizing America’s top amateur athlete is open through Feb. 25 and available at the Amateur Athletic Union’s website. The award will be given on April 15. The 18-0 Schofield was set to face 22-0 Shakur Stevenson, a fighter he once idolized, this Saturday in Saudi Arabia. A scheduled 12 rounder for Stevenson’s WBC lightweight title is still likely to go on, but Schofield has had to step away due to an undisclosed sickness.
