Around this time last year, I put together my first-ever Field of 72 with 32 Hosts. We took the 2023 NCAA tournament field and adjusted for eight extra teams and 16 additional hosts. It was a fun exercise. And if I’m being honest, it increased my conviction as to the benefits of adding these twists to our beloved national tournament.
But let’s not be naive. Every change comes with unintended consequences. Some of those could be great, while others not so much. Before I explain the benefits of this proposed format, let’s talk about why we shouldn’t do it.
