Georgia Takes Care of Business at Home Against UNC-Wilmington
The Georgia Bulldogs had no trouble securing two victories Saturday as UNC-Wilmington’s teams traveled to Athens. The Georgia women won 177-114 while the men clobbered the Seahawks by a 224-71 margin.
Georgia’s women won the 200 medley relay with Eboni McCarty, Charlotte Headland, Katie Belle Sikes and Helena Jones clocking 1:38.67. Sikes was the winner of the 50 freestyle (22.39), and Abby McCulloh, the reigning NCAA champion in the 16500 free, swam a time of 1:47.12 to win the 200 free (1:47.12).
Shea Furse topped the 1000 free (9:55.70) to open the individual racing. Ieva Maluka won the 100 backstroke (53.19), followed by Dune Coetzee taking first in the 200 butterfly (1:59.31). Marie Landreneau dominated the 100 free (49.70), and Sami Rydzewski took first in the 200 back (1:58.23). Rachel Stege grabbed the top spot in the 500 free (4:45.03), and Maluka took her second win in the 100 fly (52.76).
In diving, Ivy Buckley took first on 3-meter (277.95), and Michelle Cummo won 1-meter (273.38). Landreneau won again in the 200 IM (2:01.15), and the team of Maluka, McCarty, Jones and Emma Norton dominated the 400 free relay (3:17.81).
Wilmington’s only wins came from Gil Shaw in the breaststroke events, with times of 1:02.09 in the 100 and 2:14.47 in the 200.
Ruard Van Renen, Elliot Woodburn, Luca Urlando and Tane Bidois won the 200 medley relay for the Georgia men in 1:24.74. Urlando returned shortly after to clock a blazing time of 1:32.05 in the 200 free, and he swam a time of 41.92 leading off Georgia’s 400 free relay to end the meet. Van Renen grabbed the top spot in the 200 back (1:42.76)
Tommy-Lee Camblong was the winner of the 1650 free (15:15.30), and Wesley Ng took first in the 100 back (46.35) and 100 fly (46.47). Kristian Pitshugin was first in the 100 breast (53.08), and Drew Hitchcock came out on top in the 200 fly (1:44.05). Reese Branzell was the only man to break 20 in the 50 free (19.84).
Tomas Koski won the 100 free (42.59), and Jackson Bates won the 200 breast (1:59.02). Sam Powe overtook Camblong to top the 500 free in 4:23.03. Jake Magahey made a rare appearance in the 200 IM and clocked 1:42.99 for the win. Diver Rhett Hopkins took first on 1-meter (351.83), and teammate Renato Caldero won 3-meter (372.00). Urlando, Bidois, Van Renen and Branzell crushed the field in the 400 free relay in 2:51.62.
