The Wallabies have roared back to life with their first match of the Autumn Nations Series, defeating England 42-37 to end a nine-year winless streak at the home of rugby.
The monumental and historic result was deservedly lapped up by The Roar audience, who made their appreciation clear in their voting for the Wallabies’ performances this week – with nearly every player achieving their best numbers this year.
After six fails in their last clash against the All Blacks, the Wallabies’ result at Twickenham saw EVERY player -deservedly – pick up a pass mark for their performance – with 22 of the 23 squad averaging a score of 6 or higher. Six players also picked up an average score of 8 or higher, with four achieving a most common rating of 9 – a stellar reflection of the historic performance.
At the top of the list – by a slender margin – was, for the first time this year, Len Ikitau, with an average of 8.87 – the highest average for a single Wallaby player this season – and a most common rating of 9.
Close behind him was fellow Brumby, the ever-reliable Rob Valetini (8.75), then Angus Bell (8.74), Tom Wright (8.39) and the debutant and official man of the match himself, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii (8.35) rounding out the top five. Fraser McReight also gets an honourable mention, coming in sixth with an average of 8.14 – his best average score to date in what has been a stellar year for the Reds loose forward.
At the bottom of the list, unsurprisingly, were players who had injury-affected performances or who were utilised from the bench. Taniela Tupou finished with an average of 5.29 and a most common rating of 5, with Langi Gleeson (6.02) and James Slipper (6.12) rounding out the bottom three.
Jake Gordon and Dylan Pietsch also scored much lower than the rest of the starting side due to their performances being affected by injury – with Pietsch now set to miss the rest of the tour due to a calf injury and Josh Flook brought in to replace him. It has also been revealed that Tupou appears to be dealing with a niggling injury, but should be still fit to play against Wales.
