Olympian Alex Shackell to Remain In-state, Commits to Indiana
Alex Shackell has made her college decision, and she isn’t headed very far.
The Carmel, Indiana, senior has committed to swim at Indiana University.
“Excited to join the Hoosier family next year!!” Alex Shackell posted on Instagram. “Thank you @raylooze and @indianaswimdive for giving me this special opportunity!!!”
Shackell, a Paris Olympian, was one of the top recruits for the class of 2025.
She was sixth in the 200 butterfly and was a prelims swimmer on the silver-medal winning 800 free relay for the U.S.
In the trials, she was second in the 200 butterfly and sixth in the 200 freestyle to earn her spot in two events.
Shackell had originally committed to Cal, then de-committed before deferring.
She helped Carmel to its 39th consecutive state championship last month, winning the 100 butterfly all four years.
Indiana will gain a versatile swimmer who will score points in a lot of ways. The Hoosiers finished second at the Big Ten Championships last month and will graduate Olympian Anna Peplowski.
