It was fun while it lasted.
The Ring Magazine reported on Wednesday that the agreed to fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford is off. This just days after it was reported across the internet that the fight had become a reality. The lesson, once again, is that boxing is a sport that can let you down, and that you can’t believe what you see and hear until the opening bell is rung. In truth, this was always a difficult fight to see coming through to fruition – although it certainly seemed like a case lately where the pipe dream was becoming reality.
Canelo generally fights these days at super middleweight. Crawford, on the other hand, last fought at junior middleweight. That’s a considerable space between the two divisions. With that being said, it got to be interesting to imagine Canelo and Crawford actually squaring off in the ring. The odds would very likely be in Canelo’s favor, but Crawford’s incredible skill set (plus the fact that Canelo may be in a bit of decline) would make matters intriguing. With that being said, no specific details have been provided as to why the would be bout fell through.
