Paddy Pimblett was angered by Renato Moicano’s loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 311.
Moicano (20-6-1 MMA, 12-6 UFC) was quickly submitted by lightweight champion Makhachev (27-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC) in Saturday’s main event at Intuit Dome. Pimblett, who was previously angling to fight Moicano, expected more heart from the Brazilian.
“You f*cking tap that quick, Renato? Go asleep, lad – go out on your shield,” Pimblett said in an Instagram post. “I f*cking hate that. You’re in a f*cking choke. You’re not going to snap your neck. Go asleep. Second straight win by D’Arce choke (for Makhachev) – that was too easy. It was like, ‘Yeah, give him the sub, lad.’ I thought (Moicano) would put more of a fight than that.”
Moicano was initially scheduled to face Beneil Dariush on the card, but after Arman Tsarukyan pulled out of his title fight against Makhachev late, Moicano stepped in on a days’ notice to take the opportunity.
Despite Makhachev being a heavy favorite to win, Pimblett was rather critical of Moicano’s performance in his caption.
“Credit to Renato for stepping up on 24 hours’ notice, but come on brother. You’re never going to get that opportunity again,” Pimblett wrote. “At least go out on your shield and go to sleep.”
