- Former All Blacks star collapsed in a gym while working out
- He was diagnosed with a heart condition in 2022
Former New Zealand rugby star Keven Mealamu has lifted the lid on his health battle after sharing footage of his sickening collapse while exercising at the gym.
Mealamu was working out at his gym he co-owns with his wife Latai when he collapsed, hitting his head against the wall after initially stumbling to the ground.
The incident occurred during a group workout session and other gym users rushed to help the 130-cap test veteran after noticing he was in trouble.
The concerning incident happened in the midst of a two-year long health battle for the 45-year-old, who was first diagnosed with a heart condition in 2022.
Mealamu shared snaps of himself with Latai in hospital while undergoing treatment for the health issue before sharing the gym footage that has rocked the footy world.
‘Worry about nothing, pray about everything,’ the caption to his post read.
‘Grateful for the lessons and blessings, love and learnings.
‘Thank you for all your well wishes.’

The hooker is an All Blacks great and won 130 Test caps for his country
A number of his former All Blacks teammates, including Ma’a Nonu, Piri Weepu, Tana Umaga and Sama Cane sent their best wishes to Mealamu following his update.
He had to pull out of a boxing fundraiser in 2022 after a routine medical check-up showed an undiagnosed heart issue, with an ECG test confirming Mealamu’s irregular heartbeat.
It was later confirmed that he has a heart condition called Atrial Fibrillation, which can lead to heart failure and stroke.
He was hospitalised again last year due to heart issues.
Latai shared a photo of herself holding Mealamu’s hand two days ago, and said on Tuesday that they were celebrating their 25th anniversary.
Mealamu represented the All Blacks from 2002 until 2015, winning the Rugby World Cup twice.
The former hooker was known for his hard-tackling and no-nonsense approach to the game.
